VA Veteran’s Choice Program

The Veterans Access, Choice, Accountability Act (VACAA) of 2014 is a law that expands the number of options Veterans have for receiving care to ensure Veterans have timely access to high-quality care. Veterans Choice Program (VCP) provides primary care, inpatient and outpatient specialty care, and mental health care for eligible Veterans when the local VA medical center (VAMC) cannot provide the services due to:

1.  Lack of available specialists.
2.  Long wait times.
3.  Extraordinary distance from the Veteran’s home.

Veterans are required to access this VA health care benefit through Triwest’s comprehensive network of community-based, non-VA medical professionals who meet VA quality standards. These highly qualified providers are contracted as part of Triwest’s accredited Patient-Centered Community Care (PCCC) network and proudly serve our Veterans today in PCCC and in VCP programs.

Evan Shepherd Reiff, MS, LAc. and Devatara Holman, MS, MA, LAc are proud members of the Triwest PCCC and approved providers of the San Francisco VA’s PC3 Program.

To use your Veteran’s Choice card for a PCCC provider, you must first receive a referral from your VA doctor. The VA doctor reviews your condition and your needs and makes an assessment of your eligibility for the Veteran’s Choice program based on the 3 criteria listed above. The most common referral is for chronic pain though we are more recently receiving referrals for Anxiety  and PTSD.

Through this program the referrals to us are for Acupuncture which is clinically proven effective for pain and anxiety to name a few. For more about Acupuncture, please see that section of our web site.

Once the Veteran is assessed and determined eligible for the Veterans Choice Program, the VA issues the authorization to Triwest who then contact us to schedule an initial appointment and provide authorization for treatment. During the course of treatment, if additional treatments are needed, we work directly with Triwest for the authorization. We take care of it for you.

If you are a Veteran interested in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine for your health care, you can contact us for a free consultation to discuss your needs and see if we can help you. Most likely we can.

Thank you for your service. It is an honor to serve you.
